| 10:15 - 10:40 | Natalia Sokolova, Deputy Director ICLIS SPbSPU Consortium approach for the modernization of library management Modern technologies allow a library to become an information center. The new approach for library services relies on a wide use of external information resources. Joining a consortium provides the necessary conditions for realizing the work in a "virtual library" environment. The report deals with the results of the Copeter project, primarily oriented towards the development of electronic document ordering and supply. However, Copeter has had an impact on many sides of the library activities. |

This goal has to be realized in a time of great changes for libraries worldwide, often the result of the new information technologies. The old paradigm of the paper based library is not valid any more in the early XXI century. The library from now onwards has to renew itself continuously in order to provide cost effective services to its clients, including the participation in the e-learning environment. |

In the frames of this strategy, the university library should be transformed into the integrated university center for information services provision. It should also act as an experienced information resource navigator for different categories of users. The report presents in more details the implementation of this strategy at ETU "LETI". |

How does the user adapt to new library services? What products and services does he/she prefer? This report is based on the user survey in the three university libraries participating in the Copeter project. The outcomes of the survey will be used in defining goals and strategies for future library services development. |

Many libraries are now adding other interactive services to their library home page. The University of Antwerp has introduced within its library system the concept of an end user desktop. This desktop is driven by metadata and parameters and allows the library to build a dynamic set of web pages and to publish interactive services for their distant users. This paper describes the general concept and will demonstrate some of the features. |

Emphasis is put on the reader demand aspects. The results of the Copeter user survey carried out in the library prove that the electronic library is already widely accepted by the end users. |

Promotional activities for new services, especially when these are provided under advanced technologies, are a prerequisite for the success of these new services. However, these promotional activities will not work if the target user group would not be ready for using the new service. This report deals with the promotional aspects of the new services developed under the Copeter project. |
| 15:10 - 15:35 | Rustam Usmanov, leading programmer, ICLIS, St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University Technical issues of ILL service development Various components of the ILDS automation software have been developed and installed in SPbSTU during the last years. The study of EU solutions for ILDS within the Copeter project broadened the application field and improved its functionality. This paper deals with the architectural issues of the service development and its features in a networking environment with an increasing number of participants. |

In the library training class, created with support from the Copeter project, you will have a chance to try by yourself different parts and functions of the library automation system. You will get consultancy and help from STU library staff, experienced in the use of local library automation, ETU and FINEC library staff, experienced in consortia library services development, and from the "RUSLAN" library system development team.
